Honister slate mine is a group of slate mines and quarries located at the top of Honister Pass in the Lake District in England. You can watch slate being riven using processes that have not much changed from many years. Several times a day, the fully guided tours into the mines are available. These tours give details about the history and features of the mine.

You can actually see the current working methods in the mine. The working methods of the mine include mixture of traditional and modern methods used to extract the slate which was formed some 400 million years before.

Honister slate is a strong and durable material. This material can be used for roofs, for floors and the walls. It is distinctive green slate, though Lakeland slate comes in variety of shades and colours.
Honister via Ferrate is an adventure climbing system that uses a permanently fixed cable for safety and protection up the rock face of the old miners’ route. With full safety instructions you are attached to this system and guided tours are provided.
